Terms of Service
The terms governing access to and use of the Signal Brief news service.
Effective Date: August 5, 2025Last Updated: August 31, 2026
Welcome to Signal Brief. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Signal Brief news service (the “Service”).
Signal Brief is operated by Cedarview Consulting Inc., a Texas company doing business as Signal Brief (“Signal Brief,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Signal Brief is a news service. It provides our written coverage in two editions: The Signal, updated through the day, and The Brief, a morning edition delivered by email at 6:00 AM local time. The website and any mobile application we make available are ways to access the Service, not separate products.
By creating an account or using our Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. Our Service
Signal Brief provides written coverage from 65+ news sources through The Signal and The Brief. Our service is reader-funded and contains no advertising.
2. Eligibility and Account Requirements
You must be at least 18 years old to use our Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use.
3. Subscriptions and Payment
- Free Trial: We offer a 7-day free trial. A valid credit card is required to start your free trial. You will not be charged until the trial period ends. You may cancel your subscription at any time during the trial period to avoid charges.
- Paid Plans: We offer monthly ($9/month) and annual ($60/year) subscription plans.
- Automatic Renewal: Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date. Monthly plans renew at $9/month; annual plans renew at $60/year. We will send you a reminder email before your trial converts to a paid subscription and before each annual renewal. You will be charged the then-current subscription rate for your plan, and prices may change with 30 days advance notice.
- Payment Processing: All payments are processed securely through Stripe, Inc. We do not see or store your full credit card number; Stripe processes cards. By subscribing, you agree to Stripe’s Terms of Service.
- Cancellation and Refunds: You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account dashboard or by contacting us at support@signalbrief.org. Marking an email as spam, allowing email to bounce, or unsubscribing from email does not cancel an active or trialing subscription. During the 7-day free trial, cancel to avoid charges. After your first paid charge, cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep access until then. We will refund a charge that was unauthorized, resulted from our error, or was made after you canceled through your account dashboard or support@signalbrief.org before the charge and we failed to process it. Otherwise, we do not offer refunds for partial periods, renewals, or cancellations after the trial.
- Payment Authorization: By providing payment information, you authorize us to charge the applicable fees to your payment method.
4. Acceptable Use Policy
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Signal Brief for your personal, non-commercial use only. You agree not to:
Prohibited Content and Conduct
- Redistribute, republish, or systematically share our full coverage or substantial portions of it.
- Use automated systems, including bots, scrapers, or crawlers, to access or collect data from the Service.
- Share your account credentials or allow others to use your account.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers or networks connected to the Service.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Service.
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any laws.
- Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation.
- Transmit viruses, malware, or other harmful code.
- Engage in any conduct that restricts or inhibits anyone’s use of the Service.
5. Intellectual Property
Our IP: The unique selection, arrangement, formatting, and presentation of the news in our coverage, along with our branding, website design, software, and proprietary systems, are the exclusive intellectual property of Signal Brief.
Third-Party Content: We do not claim ownership of content from the original news sources. Our coverage names the newsrooms used so readers can understand the source base.
Prohibited Uses: The Service is intended for human use. You may not use the Service or its content to train or develop automated systems without our express written consent.
DMCA Compliance: We respect intellectual property rights. If you believe content infringes your copyright, contact us at support@signalbrief.org with detailed information per the DMCA.
6. Privacy
Your privacy is important to us. Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information. By using the Service, you consent to our privacy practices as described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
Critical Disclaimers
For Informational Purposes Only: The Service is provided for informational and educational purposes only. It is not financial, investment, legal, medical, or any other form of professional advice. Always consult with qualified professionals for specific advice.
No Guarantee of Accuracy: While we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee that all information will be error-free or complete. News sources may contain inaccuracies, and our editorial process, while rigorous, is not infallible.
Service Provided “As Is”: We provide the Service on an “as is” and “as available” basis. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SIGNAL BRIEF, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN SUBSCRIPTION FEES OVER THE LAST 12 MONTHS.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or damages, so some of the above may not apply to you.
8. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Signal Brief, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including attorney’s fees) arising from: (a) your violation of these Terms; (b) your violation of a third party’s rights; or (c) content you actually submit through the Service.
9. Termination
Your Right to Terminate: You may terminate your account at any time by canceling your subscription and ceasing to use the Service.
Our Right to Terminate: We may suspend or terminate your account immediately, without prior notice, if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that we determine, in our sole discretion, is harmful to the Service or other users.
Effect of Termination: If we suspend or terminate your account for cause, your right to access the Service ends immediately. If you cancel a paid subscription, you keep access through the end of the current billing period, as described in section 3. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including payment obligations, warranty disclaimers, indemnity obligations, and limitations of liability.
10. Cancellation and Refunds
- Cancellation: You may cancel anytime from your account dashboard or by emailing support@signalbrief.org. Marking an email as spam, allowing email to bounce, or unsubscribing from email does not cancel an active or trialing subscription.
- Trial: If you cancel during the 7-day free trial, you will not be charged.
- After the trial: After your first paid charge, cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period.
- Processing: If a refund is issued, it will be processed to your original payment method within 7-10 business days.
11. Modifications to Terms
We may modify these Terms. For material changes, we post the updated Terms on our website with a new “Last Updated” date. We may also email active subscribers. Changes take effect on that Last Updated date unless a later date is stated on the page.
Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, cancel your subscription.
12. Dispute Resolution
Governing Law: These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
Good Faith Negotiation: Before filing any legal claim, you agree to first contact us at support@signalbrief.org and attempt to resolve the issue through good faith negotiation for at least 30 days.
Jurisdiction: Any legal proceedings will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Dallas County, Texas. You consent to personal jurisdiction and venue in these courts.
Class Actions: We do not require you to waive your right to participate in class action lawsuits. You retain all rights under applicable consumer protection laws.
13. General Provisions
Force Majeure: We shall not be liable for any failure to perform our obligations due to causes beyond our reasonable control, including acts of God, war, terrorism, strikes, or technical failures.
Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements.
Assignment: You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction.
Export Controls: You agree to comply with all applicable export and import laws and regulations.
No Waiver: Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision.
