Signal Brief (the "Service") is operated by Cedarview Consulting Inc., a Texas S Corporation, d/b/a Signal Brief ("we," "us," or "our"). We provide an AI-powered daily news briefing delivered via email.

2. Our Privacy Commitment

We built Signal Brief on a foundation of trust. Our business model is simple: we are 100% reader-funded.

  • We never sell your personal data.
  • We never share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • We have no ads, and we never will.
  • We collect the minimum amount of data necessary to provide and improve the Service.

3. Information We Collect

We only collect information essential for operating the Service.

Information You Provide Directly:

  • Email Address: So we can deliver your daily briefing.
  • Reading Preferences: To customize your briefing, such as your preferred sections or delivery time.
  • Payment Information: When you subscribe, you provide payment details directly to our payment processors (Stripe or Paddle). We never see or store your full credit card number.

Information We Collect Automatically:

  • Usage Data: We collect aggregated and anonymized data about how readers interact with the Service, such as email open rates and which story links are popular. This helps us understand what's valuable and improve our curation. We do not track your individual reading habits for profiling.
  • Authentication Tokens: We use secure "magic links" to log you in without passwords. We store the token associated with your account to keep you logged in securely.
  • Technical Information: IP addresses, device identifiers, browser type, and operating system for security and service optimization purposes.

Cookies and Tracking:

We use the following types of cookies:

  • Essential Cookies: Required for authentication, security, and basic service functionality (session management, CSRF protection)
  • Analytics Cookies: With your consent, we use cookies to understand aggregate usage patterns and improve the service
  • No Advertising Cookies: We never use advertising cookies or third-party tracking technologies for marketing purposes

4. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used for four specific purposes:

  • To Deliver the Service: To send your daily briefing to your inbox.
  • To Improve the Service: To analyze aggregate usage patterns and make Signal Brief better.
  • To Provide Customer Support: To respond to your questions and resolve issues.
  • For Legal & Security Compliance: To prevent fraud, enforce our terms, and meet our legal obligations.

5. Data Storage and Third-Party Services

We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate Signal Brief. We have vetted their security and privacy practices.

  • Infrastructure: All of our data is stored with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in their us-east-2 (Ohio) region. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit using industry-standard protocols.
  • Email Delivery: We use SendGrid to deliver our emails. We share your email address with them for the sole purpose of sending you the briefing.
  • Payments: We use Stripe and Paddle to process subscriptions. They handle all payment card data securely under PCI DSS compliance.

We will never share your information with advertising networks or data brokers because we do not work with them.

Data Retention:

We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to provide the Service or as required by law. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal or regulatory compliance. We may retain anonymized and aggregated data that cannot identify you for business analytics and service improvement purposes.

6. International Data Transfers

If you access our Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using our Service, you consent to this transfer and processing.

7. Security and Data Breaches

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information. In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law, typically within 72 hours of discovery.

8. Your Data Rights and Choices

You are in control of your personal information.

  • Right to Access, Correct, and Delete: You can request a copy of your data, ask for corrections, or delete your account at any time by emailing us at support@signalbrief.org. Deleting your account will permanently remove your personal information.
  • Right to Unsubscribe: You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time by clicking the "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of every briefing.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Tracking: We only perform essential usage tracking. If you wish to opt-out, please contact us. Note that this may limit our ability to provide you with the Service.

For California Residents (CCPA/CPRA):

You have additional rights including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request its deletion, the right to correct inaccurate information, and the right to not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights. As stated clearly in this policy, we do not sell your personal information. We also do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. For Residents of Other States with Privacy Laws:

We extend similar rights to all US residents regardless of state privacy laws.

9. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it immediately.

10. Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your personal information may be transferred to the acquiring entity, provided they agree to honor the commitments made in this Privacy Policy.

11. Third-Party Links

Our Service contains links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites and encourage you to read their privacy policies.

12. Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect and prominently post notice on our website. Your continued use of the Service after this period constitutes acceptance of the new policy. If you do not agree to the changes, you may cancel your account.
