Privacy Policy
How Signal Brief collects, uses, and protects your personal information.
Effective Date: August 5, 2025Last Updated: August 31, 2026
1. Who We Are
Signal Brief is operated by Cedarview Consulting Inc., a Texas company doing business as Signal Brief (“Signal Brief,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Signal Brief is a news service. It provides our written coverage in two editions: The Signal, updated through the day, and The Brief, a morning edition delivered by email at 6:00 AM local time. The website and any mobile application we make available are ways to access the Service, not separate products.
Our goal is to create a news service you can trust. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us at support@signalbrief.org.
2. Our Privacy Commitment
Our business model is reader-funded.
- We never sell your personal data.
- We never provide your personal data to data brokers.
- We have no ads on the coverage.
- We collect account, payment, technical, usage, and marketing-measurement data needed to run and measure the Service.
3. Information We Collect
We only collect information essential for operating the Service.
Information You Provide Directly
- Email Address: So we can provide account access and deliver The Brief.
- Payment Information: When you subscribe, you provide payment details directly to our payment processor, Stripe. We never see or store your full credit card number.
Information We Collect Automatically
- Usage Data: We collect usage and technical data about how people use the Service, including through the analytics and marketing-measurement tools listed in section 5. This can include email open rates, which story links are clicked, and similar activity. We do not build a personal news-interest profile to sell or to retarget you with ads for other companies.
- Authentication Tokens: We use secure “magic links” to log you in without passwords. We store the token associated with your account to keep you logged in securely.
- Technical Information: IP addresses, device identifiers, browser type, and operating system for security and service optimization purposes.
Cookies and Tracking
- Essential Cookies: Required for authentication, security, and basic service functionality, including session management and CSRF protection.
- Analytics and Measurement: We use cookies and related technologies to understand use of the Service and measure marketing performance.
Contact us if you have questions about these technologies or want to make a privacy request.
4. How We Use Your Information
Your information is used for these purposes:
- To Deliver the Service: To provide account access, The Signal, and The Brief.
- To Improve the Service: To analyze aggregate usage patterns and make Signal Brief better.
- To Provide Customer Support: To respond to your questions and resolve issues.
- For Legal and Security Compliance: To prevent fraud, enforce our terms, and meet our legal obligations.
- To Measure Marketing and Website Use: To measure marketing performance and understand use of the website.
5. Data Storage and Third-Party Services
We use a small number of third-party services to operate Signal Brief.
- Infrastructure: Service data we host is stored with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in us-east-2 (Ohio). We encrypt Service data we control in transit and at rest. Payments are processed by Stripe. Email is delivered by Postmark. Analytics and measurement tools are listed below and are not hosted only on that AWS region.
- Email Delivery: We use Postmark to deliver our emails. We share your email address with Postmark for the sole purpose of sending you email from the Service.
- Payments: We use Stripe to process subscriptions. Stripe handles all payment card data securely under PCI DSS compliance. Stripe’s processing of your payment information is governed by its Privacy Policy.
- Analytics and Marketing Measurement: We use Google Tag Manager (GTM-PTRJV22L), Google Analytics (G-B9B3WFSBCF), Google Ads measurement, and Microsoft Universal Event Tracking (UET 97238285) to understand use of the website and measure marketing performance. These services may set or read cookies and receive technical and usage data. We also retain Meta Pixel code on some pages. Meta advertising campaigns are paused, but the code may still receive technical and usage data when those pages load.
Data Retention
We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to provide the Service or as required by law. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal or regulatory compliance. We may retain anonymized and aggregated data that cannot identify you for business analytics and service improvement purposes.
6. International Data Transfers
If you access our Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using our Service, you consent to this transfer and processing.
7. Security and Data Breaches
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information. In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
8. Your Data Rights and Choices
You are in control of your personal information.
- Right to Access, Correct, and Delete: You can request a copy of your data, ask for corrections, or delete your account at any time by emailing us at support@signalbrief.org. After a verified request, we delete personal information within 30 days, except records we must keep for law, tax, or dispute.
- Right to Unsubscribe: You can unsubscribe from The Brief at any time by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of every edition. Unsubscribing from The Brief does not cancel an active or trialing subscription. Billing notices may still be sent.
- Right to Opt Out of Tracking: You can request an opt-out of analytics and marketing-measurement tracking by emailing support@signalbrief.org. That opt-out does not cancel the news service. Essential cookies for login and security remain.
For California and Texas Residents (CCPA/CPRA/TDPSA)

9. Children’s Privacy
Our Service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it immediately.
