Getting Started

Why do you require a credit card for a free trial?

We use card verification to prevent spam and ensure we’re serving a community of real readers. You won’t be charged a cent during your 7-day trial, and we’ll send you a reminder before it ends. See the quality for yourself.

What time does The Brief arrive?

The Brief arrives at 6:00 AM your local time, every morning. We automatically detect your timezone so there’s nothing to configure—just open your inbox and start your day informed.

Is this just another app I have to download?

No apps, no new passwords, no technical hurdles. The Brief is delivered straight to your email inbox every morning so you can get caught up in 5 minutes and get on with your day.

Can I see a sample brief before signing up?

Absolutely. View today’s brief to see exactly what you’ll receive every morning. No email required, no signup needed.

How It Works

How is this different from the news I already see?

Most news is free because advertisers pay to keep you outraged and clicking. We’re 100% reader-funded, so our only loyalty is to the facts. We aggregate from 60+ sources across the political spectrum so you get the full story without the spin.

How do I know I’m getting the whole truth?

Every story includes links to all original sources so you can verify the facts for yourself. We pull from sources across the spectrum—left, right, and center—and require multiple sources for stories from partisan outlets. Our “Facts First” approach means you get the news without being told how to feel about it.

How do you select which stories to include?

We monitor 60+ news sources every morning, looking for stories that meet three criteria: significance (how many people are affected), verification (multiple credible sources reporting it), and novelty (genuinely new information). Stories covered by multiple sources get priority—if only one outlet is reporting something, we wait for confirmation.

Subscription & Billing

What happens after my 7-day trial ends?

If you love the clarity, you’ll stay on for about 30¢ a day ($9/mo), or save 44% with an annual plan ($60/yr). We’ll always notify you before any billing occurs—no surprises.

If I decide it’s not for me, how hard is it to cancel?

One click from your dashboard—no phone calls, no “retention specialists,” no hoops to jump through. Your subscription stays active through the end of your billing period, then stops. We believe in earning your trust every morning, not trapping you in a contract.

What if I forget to cancel before the trial ends?

We send trial reminders before you’re charged, and we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee even after your first payment. Just email support@signalbrief.org or reply to any brief email. We want you 100% confident you’re finally getting the unbiased news you deserve.

Why is ad-supported news inherently biased?

When news is free, you’re not the customer—advertisers are. This creates three unavoidable problems:

  • Engagement over accuracy. Ad revenue depends on clicks and time-on-site. Outrage, fear, and controversy keep people scrolling. Nuance doesn’t.
  • Advertiser influence. News outlets can’t bite the hand that feeds them. Stories that threaten major advertisers get softened, buried, or killed entirely.
  • Filter bubbles. “Free” platforms show you content that confirms your existing beliefs and triggers emotional reactions—not content that informs.

We charge $9/month (or $60/year) because it’s the only way to make you our only customer. No advertisers to please, no outrage-optimized feed, no corporate parent with an agenda.

Content & Coverage

What topics do you cover?

We organize news into six sections:

  • Breaking: The biggest story of the day
  • Global: International affairs and world events
  • US: American politics, policy, and national news
  • Business: Markets, economics, and corporate news
  • Tech: Technology, science, and innovation
  • Life: Culture, health, and human interest

You get 12–13 stories daily, each with sources you can verify yourself.

Which news sources do you use?

We aggregate from 60+ sources including Reuters, AP, Bloomberg, WSJ, NYT, WaPo, Fox, CNN, BBC, and many others. We intentionally include sources from across the political spectrum to minimize bias. Every story includes links to the original sources so you can always verify.

How do I read past briefs?

Past briefs are available in your archive (30 days of history). You can also save briefs in your email client for reference anytime.

Privacy & Security

What data do you collect?

Only what’s necessary: your email (for delivery), payment info (handled by Stripe—we never see your card number), and basic usage data (open rates to improve the service). We never sell your data, we have no advertising partners, and we use minimal cookies. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.

How do I access my account without a password?

We use “magic links” for authentication. Enter your email and we’ll send you a secure login link. It’s more secure than passwords (can’t be guessed or reused) and you’ll never forget it.

Is my payment information secure?

Yes. We use Stripe, the industry-leading payment processor trusted by millions of businesses. Your card details are encrypted and handled entirely by them—we never see or store your full card number.

What if the email goes to spam?

Add brief@signalbrief.org to your contacts. Check your spam folder and mark our email as “not spam.” Gmail users: drag the email to your Primary tab. Still having issues? Reply to any brief email and we’ll help.
