Getting Started

Why do you require a credit card for a free trial?

Card verification helps us prevent spam and serve a community of genuine readers. You won’t be charged during your 7-day trial, and we send a reminder before it ends so there are no surprises.

What time does The Brief arrive?

Every morning at 6:00 AM your local time. We detect your timezone automatically—nothing to set up. Open your inbox, and your Brief is waiting.

Is this just another app I have to download?

No app, no account to manage, no new passwords. The Brief arrives as a clean email in your existing inbox. Read it in five minutes, then get on with your day.

Can I see a sample before signing up?

View yesterday’s Brief to see exactly what lands in your inbox each morning. No email required.

How It Works

How is this different from other news digests?

Most digests are funded by advertisers. The Brief is 100% reader-funded, so our incentives stay aligned with subscribers. Every story cross-references coverage from across the political spectrum and links directly to the original reporting.

How do you verify what goes into The Brief?

Each story must meet three criteria before it’s included: significance (does it affect a meaningful number of people), verification (are multiple credible outlets reporting it), and novelty (is this genuinely new information). When only one source is reporting something, we wait for independent confirmation.

How do you select which stories to include?

Each morning, we review reporting from 65+ sources—Reuters, AP, Bloomberg, BBC, WSJ, NYT, and dozens more across the political spectrum. Stories confirmed by multiple independent sources get priority. Every edition includes links to the original sources so you can check the reporting yourself.

Subscription & Billing

What happens after my 7-day trial ends?

Your subscription begins at $9/mo, or you can save 44% with the annual plan at $60/yr. We send a reminder before your trial ends so you can decide with no pressure.

How easy is it to cancel?

Cancel anytime from your dashboard. Your subscription stays active through the end of your billing period, then stops. We’d rather earn your readership every morning than lock you into a contract.

What if I forget to cancel before the trial ends?

We send a reminder before your trial ends. If you miss it, our 30-day money-back guarantee has you covered. Just email support@signalbrief.org or reply to any Brief—we’ll take care of it right away.

Why does reader-funded news matter?

Reader funding keeps our incentives clear: subscribers are the customer, not advertisers. That means we can focus on verified reporting, source diversity, and transparent sourcing in every edition. At $9/month, that independence is what you’re paying for.

Content & Coverage

What topics does The Brief cover?

Each edition is organized into six sections:

  • Breaking: The day’s most significant developing story
  • Global: International affairs and world events
  • US: American politics, policy, and national news
  • Business: Markets, economics, and corporate news
  • Tech: Technology, science, and innovation

Every story includes links to the original sources so you can dig deeper on anything that matters to you.

Which news sources do you use?

We draw from 65+ sources across the political spectrum, including Reuters, AP, Bloomberg, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Fox News, CNN, BBC, and many others. We intentionally include outlets from left, center, and right to surface the full picture on every story.

Can I read past editions?

Yes. Your archive stores 30 days of past Briefs. You can also save any edition in your email client for future reference.

How is The Brief different from 1440 or Morning Brew?

1440 and Morning Brew are primarily ad-supported. The Brief is 100% reader-funded, with no ads or sponsors. We also publish our methodology and link to original sources in every story so readers can verify the reporting themselves.

We do not sell your data, we have no advertising partners, and we use minimal cookies. Full details in our Privacy Policy.

How do I log in without a password?

We use one-time magic links. Enter your email, and we send a secure sign-in link that works once and expires automatically. No password to create or remember.

Yes. All payments are processed by Stripe, the payment platform used by millions of businesses worldwide. Your card details are encrypted end-to-end and never touch our servers.

What if The Brief goes to my spam folder?

Add brief@signalbrief.org to your contacts. If it’s already in spam, mark it as “not spam.” Gmail users: drag The Brief to your Primary tab. If you’re still having trouble, reply to any edition and we’ll help sort it out.

Who reviews The Brief before it goes out?

Every edition goes through a structured editorial review against strict standards for significance, verification, and neutrality before it reaches your inbox. We publish our methodology so you can see how stories are selected and checked.

Do you cover local news?

The Brief focuses on national and global stories with broad significance. For local coverage, we recommend pairing The Brief with a trusted local source in your area.
